More arrivals at our sanctuary. Left is 'Pluto' who spent some time roaming the streets of Gennadi begging for food at the restaurants before being rescued. Next a beautiful chocolate coloured puppy with white feet and chest, one of 35 pups currently eating their way through enormous amounts of food. Second from right is a handsome setter and finally a very elegant dog who was found, very undernourished, around the outskirts of the village.

A selection of recent sanctuary arrivals. Top left is a poor unwanted dog that only has one eye. Third in the same row is a dog found between Gennadi and Lahania. We believe he is a house dog and we are trying to locate his owners. The next two were taken in because the owner was returning to the UK. The last dog was taken to the sanctuary while it was unattended and put into a pen so we have no information. This is a worrying trend at present. Recently another owner trying to get rid of an unwanted dog put it into a compound where there were numerous other dogs. A member of Noah's Ark arrived to find the poor dog being attacked by the other residents and was just in time to save it. Dogs arriving at the sanctuary have to undergo quarantine for 14 days for treatment and assessment before introduction to others and opening the gate to compounds is dangerous to both the owner and dog.

29/12/2007 Yet another batch of unwanted puppies who have found themselves in our care. All from different litters and varying in age from a few weeks to a few months old. The black & white one on the right was suffering from ring worm and is now in a quarantine kennel while treatment is administered.

24/12/2007 Alone at Christmas. This 2 month old puppy was found wandering the streets of Koskinou and was lucky enough to have been rescued by a caring Greek family who took him to a local vet who gave him some routine treatment and recommended that they called us.

17/12/2007

We received reports of a litter of 8 puppies abandoned in Pastida, close to the airport and headed there to find them. They were tracked down to an area dense with undergrowth and over the course of an hour, managed to find 5. We also found a bitch (pictured right) who had obviously had a recent litter, but opinions differ on whether she is there mother. What do you think ?

We are now anxiously waiting for sightings of the remaining three.

10/12/2007     Two more unwanted dogs. The first a husky cross and on the right one found wandering in Pefkos.

08/12/2007  This week has seen a succession of new arrivals at the sanctuary, mainly abandoned puppies. They arrived from Pilona, Koskinou, Lardos and other villages. Here are the photographs:

This female dog was found wandering the streets of Masari and was brought to the sanctuary. She was in good condition and has a wonderful temperament. Her tail wags constantly when anyone is near her. She has been given the name 'Bouzou'. If her owner does not appear to claim her she will have no trouble in finding a loving home.

Here is a selection of recent arrivals at the sanctuary. The first (left) has very well defined black patches and is a lovely looking dog. The second also has unsual colouring. The third was a little worse for wear on arrival, having a stiff rear leg but is now improving whilst the last is a good natured dog but very nervous at present.

7/11/2007 Another litter of pups - this time found abandoned by their mother in Kiotari at the back of one of the large hotels which is now closed for the winter. We estimate their age to be 5-6 weeks and there are 4 female and one male. They are currently being looked after by one of our members who has named them Fudge, Candy, Rolo, Jack & Mitzi (not necessarily in that order).

30/10/2007  A telephone call sent us scurrying to Kiotari to look for a dog in desperate need of our help. We found her, a dog who is typically used for hunting in Rhodes. She was extremely emaciated. Just skin & bone so she was whisked off to our sanctuary for a much needed meal and some tender loving care. She is a very friendly girl who has obviously had a litter in recent months.

Recently Rosa, a current resident at the sanctuary, gave birth to 2 pups. One completely black and 1 white with black patches to the head. Rosa is an older dog and with age come smaller letters. This was a very good thing in this instant because we also received an abandoned pup who was approximately the same age. We put this pup in with Rosa and her offspring and held our breath. We didn't have to wait long because Rosa adopted the new arrival straight away and allowed her to suckle. A very happy and fortunate end.

The adopted pup (right) has a black patch under the left eye. We hope to show a better photo soon.

Three very pretty older puppies that arrived this week at the sanctuary

A Pekinese 'Mum' and her 3 puppies who have just arrived.

Four georgeous little puppies that arrived this week at the sanctuary. They were being fostered by caring supporters who were departing for England for the winter. Our best wishes go with them and we hope that new homes can be found for them very soon.

This is one of two pups born at our sanctuary very recently to mum "Shadow"

This is Mum and two of the litter

This week saw the arrival of a litter of nine puppies and their mother. We had been aware of the dog, who was a stray, for some time. She was always in the Kiotari area of Rhodes and had been producing large litters for some time. We are now looking for good homes for all of the family (obviously not together). The mother will be neutered before leaving us.

When this dog arrived he was very sick and has been nursed by one of our volunteers at her home. We are pleased to say that he is now fully  recovered and fit enough to join the rest at the sanctuary. Ref:88

One of our larger dogs, recently admitted. More information to follow. Ref:89

This friendly dog was found wandering on the beach at Kolymbia, a holiday resort in Rhodes. She may be pregnant which could explain why  she was abandoned. Ref:87

Helena was discovered wandering on the beach at Gennadi. Much to the annoyance of visitors from the UK, Germany and Austria, she was  being kept away by some visitors with stones. One of our volunteers was on hand to rescue the poor animal and was rewarded with a donation of 150 euros. Many thanks to Sylvia Ott  from Austria. Ref:82

We had a desperate call telling us that there was a Doberman dog in a culvert near Lardos. Now many people would be very hesitant about   approaching this breed and who could blame them but our volunteers coaxed him out and brought him to the sanctuary. He was  very thin and was   keen to eat and drink his fill. Ref:83

You can imagine our surprise when we received a call the following day asking us to go back to the same location for another Doberman,   this time a female. She was much more reluctant to come out but allowed herself to be picked up and put into the car. They well be   from the same litter. Ref:86
