Just Cats
08/12/2007 It is with great regret that we have to report that 14 cats have been poisoned at our feeding station in Gennadi, South Rhodes. Unfortunately, to some uncaring people this is the easiest way to solve the problem of over population. Noahs Ark is shocked by this cruel act and offer a reward for information leading to a prosecution of the perpetrators. 7/11/2007 Feeding Station in Pefkos
Looking at our web site you would be forgiven for thinking that we only take care of dogs at Noah's Ark. The fact of the matter is that it is very difficult to contain a cat without resorting to cages, and we do not believe that is the best way to care for them. Members of the Society are currently caring for around 120 cats at their homes, all strays handed to us by the public. The only way to stop the increase in stray cats is a trap and neuter programme. You catch a complete colony from a pre-determined area, have them neutered and then return them to their original stomping ground. If they are simply removed then what is known as the vaccuum effect comes into play where other cats occupy the territory, and a new breeding colony is formed.
During the summer months the cats can be found begging for food in the many restaurants on the Island and visitors are more than willing to befriend them, but come the end of the season all the restaurants close and they are left with no food to sustain them through the winter. Our method ofcombatting this problem is to set up feeding stations at central points, and these are looked after by some of our valiant supporters. 
All of these measures cost a lot of money so we are launching an appeal to our friends to help us support the cats throughout the winter months.
