24/12/2007: A lot of hard work was needed to ensure that the construction of kennels and new compounds was completed before Christmas. We now have 5 new quarantine enclosures and another large compound. These give us a further range of options to accommodate new arrivals that need assessment before integration with others, and to cope with nursing dogs. Our grateful thanks to all who helped.
03/12/2007 : This was a big day for us at the sanctuary. After months of preparation we rallied all available volunteers for the arrival of 3 lorries filled with ready mix concrete. Nine of the compounds now have a solid base and the remainder, on the hill, have level bases for the kennel construction. It was a difficult job for the 'pumper'. It was at full stretch to reach the extremeties and had to drop down between the trees to reach it's target.

28/10/2007: As new compounds are completed new kennels for the dogs also have to be constructed. The last of the summer visitors will be leaving during the coming week heralding the coming of winter. We never know when the rain will come. Some years we have very little this side of Christmas but we have to be prepared.

The shuttering being constructed for the concrete base of another kennel. Our residents making sure the job is done properly and that their own space is reserved. The upper part of the kennel will be concrete blocks creating protection against the elements amongst the fir trees.
Our volunteers have worked feverishly to construct new compounds to house the ever increasing number of stray dogs that arrive on an almost daily basis. We now have 9 seperate enclosures which enables us to segregate according to temperament and necessity through ill health. It is also important to quarantine new arrivals until we are sure that they carry no diseases or infestations that would be transmitted to the existing residents.
With winter just around the corner it is time to plan for the end of the dry hot weather and work is underway on a shelter to protect the volunteers from the rain and to keep the animal food.

During the summer we have collection pots throughout the holiday resorts and we have started collecting them in in preparation for the end of the season. A big thank you if you were on holiday here and contributed. It is vital to keep the funds rolling in to see us through the winter.
